5 Questions About Mockups Answered
Sunday, May 31, 2020
How many times have you thought that you would love to see your design or logo on an article of clothing or business card but wanted to make sure it looked right on that product before you could commit to making it? Have you tried using mockups? This term mockup is new to me but not the process.
What is a mockup?
A mockup is a scale or full-size model of a design or device, used for teaching, demonstration, design evaluation, promotion, and other purposes. A mockup is a prototype if it provides at least part of the functionality of a system and enables testing of a design.
Basically, you can use a mockup for everything from websites to clothing and everything in between. The big thing for consumers is to be able to see it before you buy it. For designers and crafters, see it before the make a million units that won't sell. Mock ups are the perfect bridge for so many situations. Some examples of that are store to the consumer, designer to production, crafter to production, or any individual with specific needs. To be put even simpler, a mockup is simply a template that can be used over and over with different designs to show clients or buyers what a finished product could look like.
Have I ever used a mockup?
Trying to get a good clear idea of what a mockup is, it's a mock stage. Many online stores use this as a way to see color options or pattern options as it would actually fit on a body before we buy it. I was making a purchase online earlier today and every color option was the same picture with a different colored t-shirt. Every picture of the model was the same pose and then it hit me, they used a t-shirt mockup to showcase their product to make it easier for shoppers. Brilliant!!
Designers can use mock ups the same way. They can get a high-quality view of their product while saving money on resources and even more importantly, saving time. Something as simple as a sweatshirt mockup can be created in a matter of minutes!
Why use a mockup?
Using mock ups saves so much time and money. You can simply grab a template and add your product right into the picture-perfect scene, DONE. There is no need to use a studio and stage a scene, have a model or models to show off the product or design.
It's a huge bonus being able to visualize your project or product instantly in a "real world" setting. You will know instantly if your text spacing looks okay or logo sizing or positioning is correct. The options are limitless.
Are all mockups the same?
No, ma'am. Mockups are easily altered, unlike traditional development settings. You can change themes, color schemes, and layouts until you find the perfect one. Design Bundles has thousands of templates giving you great options for any project.
Are mockups more attractive than prototypes?
Not only are mockups easier and more cost-effective to create, but they are also generally more colorful and visually appealing. It's so much easier to get the full scope of the project across to the intended audience when it is in a completely ready for use situation.
