Everything going on in the world today has made so many of us put on our McGyver thinking caps and Suzie Homemaker aprons. We need to be resourceful and effective so we don't have to go into panic mode over every little thing. Sadly, some of us are already there.

When everything went crazy in our town, everything sold out. I am sure almost all of you know the feeling of panic that set in when that happened.  How is everyone going to make it through this if the store can't stay stocked? Calling this the "uncertain time" is so accurate! The beginning of this crisis was so much more than scary. I think over the past 5 weeks we have grown more comfortable with knowing there is still no definite end but we can make it through it, not knowing exactly what to expect.

There are so many products that are just not obtainable. It's mind-blowing that some of the products that are always available are out of stock EVERYWHERE. I feel like I am really getting away with something by having Allurials Aloe Vera Gel.

A little story...

I didn't know how many uses Aloe Vera Gel actually had until there wasn't any in stock anywhere and I didn't know why. I had a long conversation with the pharmacist, he let me know that they made DIY Hand Sanitizer kits because hand sanitizer flew off the shelves so fast. He brought me to the display at the front of the store, it was empty. That's when he let me know that any parts of the DIY kits will be hard to find and he wasn't kidding. I am online every day, how did I not know that there was a version of homemade hand sanitizer?




Just remember, hand sanitizer does not replace washing your hands. Washing your hands is the best way to get and keep your hands clean.


#1 DIY Hand Sanitizer

As I mentioned above, DIY Hand Sanitizer is trending right now. I will post the recipe at the bottom of the post, 2 ingredients- so simple!

#2 Soothing Skin 

Hydrating, healing cream for sunburn, stretch marks, acne, rash, and razor burn. This is one that I did know bout. When we were kids, we would get aloe for any kind of burns and it would soothe it instantly. It's amazing to have on hand. It will also help with bug bites and soothing irritated skin.

#3 Acne/Blemish Control

Aloe is great for your skin for so many reasons. You can use it as a cleanser and also spot treat your blemishes and breakouts overnight to reduce redness and irritation.

#4 Healthier Hair 

Use as a hair gel or cleansing conditioner for strong, shiny, and dandruff free hair. This is amazing to me. You can put the Aloe Vera Gel directly on your hair and scalp to ease the itch of dandruff. Let it soak in your hair and follicles for about an hour and then wash it out with a mild shampoo.





So, the simple recipe for homemade hand sanitizer...

Apparently, homemade hand sanitizer is very controversial right now. There is a big debate on why or why not to make it. Me personally, I have no small children in my home and all of the ones using it are old enough to know it is not a toy. Use this information at your own discretion.

60% or greater alcohol volume is needed but 75% is better.

Simple direction for homemade hand sanitizer:

2 parts rubbing alcohol (93 proof or greater)
1 parts Aloe Vera Gel

I've seen a lot of recipes calling for 2/3 cup of alcohol and 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel. That is a great measuring size but most travel sized containers are only 1-4 ounces. Unless you have several containers you will want to make a smaller batch.

2 TBS  Rubbing Alcohol
1 TBS Aloe Vera Gel

Will get you the same 60%+ alcohol by volume that you are looking for.
You can increase the ratio by adding more alcohol. For a 75% mixture you will use the 3:1 ratio.

That will give you one container full and you can mix it up in about a minute or less. It will cut back on over producing and the risk of contaminated product. You will want to make sure your mixture goes directly into a dry sterile container right after mixing.

Mix the two ingredients together and funnel into a container. Using travel sized shampoo bottles are a perfect size. The fit right in your purse and they are already designed to not leak.

Use what you have on hand. You don't have to make a special trip to the store to get a container for your mix. Murphy USA gas station is producing their own hand sanitizer and selling it in bottles that are the same design as the 5 Hour Energy bottles.

Be aware of what you are doing and always mark the containers clearly. Keep them away from children and anyone that cannot read efficiently.
