My goal is to help you through wrapping a gift. My husband is the inspiration for the this post. I love him so much but he can't wrap a present in paper. Since I have known him, he has been the label writer and bow placer.
This is my view of what to do to get those boxes wrapped and crammed so the kids can go nuts for the next few weeks. A little bit of parent pay back :)
First thing first, make sure you have the necessities. Scissors, Tape, and wrapping paper.
Making sure you have enough paper is very important. If you are measuring, make sure it goes a little past half way down the sides so when you wrap, it will cover all surfaces. I have been known to cut too much but, that is because I have also cut too little. I am here to tell you, it is way easier to trim some off than it is to patch in the empty spots.
When securing your center, try to make sure the gift is as centered as you can get it. It will really make a difference when you fold. Don't use more than one piece of tape with this part, you may have to adjust it.
When you press the the paper to the box, make sure you don't push the gift across the paper. I have also done that. Get one side completely magnificent and get to the other side and have 2 inches of overhang to cover 6 inches of box. It doesn't happen.
With your tight edges pressed, it should make an angle down. Make these edges nice and stiff, it's so much easier to fold that way.
Start on one side and fold to the center. On the opposite side, fold to the center. You can secure with tape if you want to, depending on the gift, it may be easier to use a little more than others.
When on the last side of the box, If you have a long tongue sticking out, fold it in half as long as there is enough to cover the remaining exposed goodies.
Secure all meeting points with tape so the don't tug loose during stacking, un- stacking and readjusting.
There you have it guys. An evenly wrapped gift.
Note to all wrappers:
Depending on the pillagers, you might want to consider the amount of tape you use. An example, toddlers will get excited and accidentally pull the paper off prematurely just by being excited. Same goes for teenagers, I recommend extra tape. In extreme cases, bells along the bottom branches of the tree so they will be easily detected when trying to reach the mini jackpots.
What is the hardest thing you have ever had to wrap?
We all need this kind of post at Christmas! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Im not a great wrapper so this was right on time :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband isn't a good wrapper, either! (Though he is a good rapper! hee hee!) Still, I tend to prefer gift bags as they are simple, pretty, and reusable! I will, however, point my husband your way.

Great advice! I still remember the year that I had to wrap up a Tonka dump truck almost as big as the 2 year old it was meant for. Not fun times... until he opened it anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I wrap presents in the exact same way. Fastest way to go about it.
ReplyDeleteI really like when gifts are warped. But I always get the felling about all that amount of paper that is just used once and then thrown away. When I'm going to warp I try using other reused papers, like newspapers or used on one side sheets of paper and then I draw something on top to make it beautiful anyway.

Great techniques! I'm definitely the wrapper in our house too. I love the idea of bells at the bottom of the tree, I have to try that with two very excited toddlers! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am a great wrapper and this is the same technique that I use!
ReplyDeleteI have a big problem wrapping so this is awesome!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThe most difficult thing I ever wrapped was a large heavy sporting goods item. It was too heavy for me to handle.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest thing to wrap is definitely the kiddie toys!! Everything else...I can do. lol. Loving your visuals and can't wait to pass this along to the fam.
ReplyDeleteHey I wrap the same way!! I love wrapping and my family loves it even more because it means they don't have to. I have a hard time wrapping everything though... not because it's hard, but because I want to give the gift right away!!!
ReplyDeleteWe both wrap. Now the funny part is that we do it all on Christmas Eve around midnight!! Thanks for the tips. Will be implementing shortly!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips, great how to post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips, great how to post!
ReplyDeleteJust in time for me to wrap gifts!! I am truly awful at this!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. This will save me a lot of time.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is the best gift wrapper ever and I could never master the skill. Thanks for sharing. I hope to use these techniques this year. Wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very timely post for the season. I'm the gift wrapper in my house and appreciate the visuals you shared. If I have a gift that proves too difficult to wrap, I go for a gift bag with a bunch of paper in it so that the receiver at least gets some fun in digging the gift out. :-)
ReplyDeleteWrapping presents is a year round event with kids. Great technique, my aunt showed me how to wrap presents as a teenager and I love it. Although I think some of the hardest gifts to wrap are toddler toys that stick out of their packaging. That's where bows come in handy!
ReplyDeleteLove the technique! Thanks for sharing!
